Startup Saturday Delhi – How to Build a Startup Brand? | Feb 2015 Edition

The event attracted fair number attendees despite it being the Valentine day. The event was about nitty-gritties of building a brand and a few lightening pitches by entrepreneurs having very interesting product and services.

Ajay kick-started the session and after a round of basic introductions from everyone, the speakers took up the stage.

1. Session I: How can an early stage startup build a Brand with Limited ResourcesMr. Nikunj Jain, Cofounder, Frankly

Nikunj had really interesting views on building a brand. He is of the view that one should work on identifying a great customer needs and building a product or service or both around it. According to him, building brand is optional. He gave several examples, one of them being whatsapp. He said that whatsapp built a great product that worked on solving customers’ problems and focussed more on it than building a brand. The brand got built on its own.

2. Lightening pitch — Ecoman Energy – Mr. Vasant Agarwal

He showcased a few very interesting solar LED products. A lantern, which had solar panel on top, could also charge a mobile phone. A unique feature was that it could be manually charged by rotating a device – a nice fit for rural areas which do not receive a lot of electricity. He also showed a torch fitted with solar panel and a LED light stand which could be turned on through any TV remote which is highly admired by the audience.

3. Session II:  — How cricketers have built their personal brands over the years? – Mr. Sunil YashKalra, Head Sponsorship & Content Development at PlayUp.com

Sunil explained the transformation of cricketers over the years. He showed a presentation to depict transformation from “good old days” to “now”. He delved deeper into how cricketers change their strategy and pivot from one way of working to another.

4. Lightening pitch — Pricetree.com – Mr. VikashRathee

A very interesting website that compares a lot of products side by side. The website covers both offline and online stores, though prices are available only for online stores. It claims to have all the offline stores registered voluntarily through a form on the website. The revenue stream includes earning commission from referring the customers onto online players’ websites.

5. Sessin III — How can an early Stage Startup acquire users by marketing themselves with their Limited Resources ? – Mr. Rishi Seth, Founder & CEO, Evoc.

Rishi talked about how the companies are creating values by identifying the pain points of customers. He explained how Whatsaap and Uber solved huge problems by working on providing seamless and simple solutions.

6. Lightening pitch — giftxoxo.com – Mr. Kaushal Agarwal

Kaushal explained his offerings – gifting of adventure holidays. It is indeed a unique space in Indian e-commerce and is perhaps the first organisation of its kind. He took us through the journey of his organisation – pivoting from providing corporate gifting (such as printed mugs, etc) to providing adventure holidays. The company actually is an aggregator and provides the offerings through its vendors.

Post session the floor was opened up for Networking.
