On 30th May 2020, Headstart Network Foundation – Patna chapter organised a webinar on the topic –  What companies expect while hiring.” The speaker of the webinar was Mr Sajjad Ahmed, Director – HR, Talent Management, Capgemini.

This webinar was directed towards college students of Bihar, majorly from Patna, Nalanda, Muzzafarpur, Darbhanga, Bettiah, Siwan, Gaya, Hajipur, Sasaram, Samastipur, Rajgir, Kathihar and more. The idea was to talk about companies’ expectations from young Indians joining the workforce, both from the perspective of a Startup as well as a large Corporate.

Sajjad talked about a student’s journey from campus to companies while explaining the hiring process in detail. To encourage students to get into entrepreneurship, Sajjad also explained how the startup experience can be an add-on in the resume that can attract the companies. He demonstrated the skill sets that we gain during our startup experience.

According to the speaker, “We are currently living in a VUCA world, where we need to develop skill sets to handle – Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. We need to focus both on the content and delivery of content during the interview process.”

The college students and aspiring entrepreneurs also got the chance to ask their queries.

Ayushi from Patna Women’s College asked: “As she is running an online store, can she add her social media account into a resume?”.

Another student Raj Kashyap from Amity University, Patna asked: “What companies are doing for campus placement in the current scenario?”.

Noor Fatima from Patna Women’s College wants to grow her network. She asked. “What things should we mention in invite request on LinkedIn?”

Kahkashan from Magadh Mahila College asked, “The current scenario is that companies opt for people with technical knowledge or knowledge related to business administration. I’m a B.Sc. Statistics student and I want to know what opportunities are for me and how can I increase my chances of getting a good job?”

Overall, it was a very engaging session. Bihar needs more industries and startups to bring back its economy on track. The main focus of Patna chapter is to create awareness among college students and provide them with a platform where they can work on their startup ideas.
